• DOS Prep converts all files, folders, and volumes dropped on it to uppercase letters.
Why would I want to convert my filenames to uppercase?
• If you intend to make a CD-ROM for use on both Macs and PCs, the files to be used by the PCs must all be uppercase. This utility will quickly convert your existing files/folders/volumes to uppercase.
What are the minimum requirements to use this utility?
• You need System 7
• 100K of free RAM
How do I use this utility?
• Drag and Drop: This utility can be used like a drop-box — you drag and drop the files to convert on to it and it will convert all files to uppercase names. Additionally, you can drag and drop whole folders or disks on to the utility to convert every file/folder to uppercase. Note: You might have to rebuild your desktop before using drag and drop with this utility. To rebuild your desktop, restart your computer and hold down the Option and Command keys until your computer asks you if you want to rebuild your desktop.
• Double-clicking: Double-clicking will start up the utility and wait for you to choose a file to convert via the “Open…” command in the File menu.
• Through scripts: These applications are scriptable. The easiest way to learn how to script them is to record your actions using the Script Editor.
• To cancel the conversion once it has started, press Command-. (Command-period).
The names weren’t changed. What’s wrong?
• The Finder sometimes takes a little while to update file names. In this case, you can either close the folders containing the changed files and open them later, or restart your Mac to see the changes.
What if the files are on a locked disk, like a CD-ROM, or are locked?
• You can’t change files on locked volumes. Additionally, locked files cannot be modified.
Is this utility free?
• No, it is shareware. You must register it with me, at the cost of $3, if you find it useful and use it for longer than 30 days. I am committed to producing quality, bug-free software and your registration will help me to continue writing quality software.
